Overview

Jack Victor Ltd, a premium Canadian menswear manufacturer, serves a global network of retail partners with made-to-measure (MTM) and ready-to-wear collections. At the time, its B2B ordering system relied heavily on spreadsheets, PDFs, phone calls, and email—a manual and error-prone process that created bottlenecks for sales reps, internal teams, and retail buyers alike.

I led research and design for two key digital tools: Tru-Measure, a custom suit ordering platform, and In-Stock Inventory, a searchable, real-time inventory catalog.

  • Role: Lead UX/UI Designer (October 2019 – April 2025)
  • Scope: UX & UI Design, Design System, User Research, Content Strategy

The Challenge

The manual, offline B2B ordering process led to friction at multiple levels:

  • Order placement relied on spreadsheets, back-and-forth emails, and phone calls—resulting in frequent mistakes and inconsistencies.
  • Inventory data was not easily accessible or consistently up to date.
  • Custom MTM orders involved complex measurements and fabric/style selections.
  • Retail partners had varying levels of digital fluency, requiring a simple, guided interface.
  • Internal staff needed tools that minimized errors and reduced backtracking.

The Solutions

1. Tru-Measure: Custom Suit Ordering Tool

Problem: Custom suit orders were complex and error-prone, with steps scattered across paper forms, emails, and phone calls.

Approach:

  • Interviewed sales reps, tailoring experts, and retail partners to understand real-world workflows.
  • Created detailed user personas, user stories, and task flows to align the team.
  • Designed low-fidelity wireframes to validate the flow, then evolved them into high-fidelity mockups.
  • Developed an intuitive, step-by-step ordering system including:
    • Measurement entry
    • Fabric and lining selection
    • Jacket and trouser customizations
    • Style preferences

Results:

  • Significantly reduced ordering errors and internal follow-up.
  • Enabled retail partners to complete orders independently, improving speed and accuracy.
  • Defined a clear information hierarchy and standardized product metadata.
  • Wrote user stories for common buyer scenarios (e.g., search by size, category, or availability).
  • Built a modular UI system for long-term scalability.
  • Achieved strong adoption across digitally inexperienced users due to the tool’s guided, intuitive flow.

2. In-Stock Inventory Catalog

Problem: Retailers and sales reps had limited visibility into available ready-to-wear products and no streamlined way to place custom orders, resulting in missed sales and operational inefficiencies.

Approach:

  • Designed a searchable catalog with real-time availability, filters, and detailed product information.
  • Integrated custom ordering capabilities directly within the catalog interface.
  • Designed low-fidelity wireframes to validate the flow, then evolved them into high-fidelity mockups.
  • Built an interface with tiered permissions for different partner types.

Results:

  • Created a centralized, self-serve inventory and ordering system, reducing calls and emails for internal teams.
  • Improved product discoverability and enabled seamless transition from browsing to ordering.
  • Accelerated custom order placement and increased buyer confidence.

Overall Impact

  • Replaced legacy, manual workflows with scalable digital tools
  • Enabled self-service inventory browsing, reducing internal support requests
  • Streamlined custom orders, reducing order cycles and manual entry errors
  • Modernized inventory access, empowering partners to act independently
  • Increased buyer confidence and efficiency in restocking
  • Laid the foundation for long-term digital transformation within the business

Key Takeaways

  • Clear user flows and consistent UI reduce friction in complex B2B environments
  • Guided flows are critical when digital users vary widely in skill level
  • User-centered design can modernize even legacy, offline industries
  • Wireframes and user stories helped align teams early and avoid rework
  • Successful UX in B2B often means designing for both digital natives and traditional buyers
